GALLART AND RIVERA COLLECT GNAC WEEKLY HONORS

Two Mount Ida College student-athletes were selected to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honors section this past week with Mustang sophomore cross country standout Jeileen Rivera (Springfield, MA/Springfield Central) capturing player-of-the-week and freshman women's volleyball middle blocker Christine Gallart (Germantown, MD/St. John's College HS) has been selected as this rookie-of-the-week.

Rivera, who has placed first among her team in every race she has competed in so far this season, clocked in with a time of 22:32 coming in 16th place out of 52 runners this past Saturday at the Gordon College Invitational 5K race.  The Mustangs will travel to Rivier College to compete in the GNAC women's cross country championships this coming Saturday.

Gallart was huge in a 4-0 overall week for the Mustangs notching 40 kills, 14 aces, nine digs, and six blocks.  She has been a force all season helping the Mustangs to a 12-2 record the past 14 games.   Three out of the four victories last week came against Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponents (Lasell College, Norwich University, St. Joseph's College (ME)) and one non-conference opponent (Salem State College) pulling the Mustangs into fourth place in league standings.   Gallart has been outstanding all season, working with women's volleyball Assistant Coach and Mount Ida alumnus Tim Hughes ‘07, who broke every record in the men's volleyball program books as a middle during his tenure as a Mustang.  Gallart leads the team in kills (134), service aces (47), and solo blocks (30) so far this season.  The Mustangs round out the regular season with two home non-conference matches starting this Wednesday against visiting Western Connecticut State University at 6:00 p.m.
