KEITH JONES SELECTED AS GNAC ROOKIE-OF-THE-WEEK

Mount Ida College men's basketball sophomore Keith Jones (Boston, MA/Cathedral) was selected for the second consecutive week as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie-of-the-Week.  Jones has turned heads so far this season with numerous outstanding individual performances during the first six games of the season including an eye opening 33 points going 6-10 from downtown in an 88-83 GNAC victory over visiting Emmanuel College last Tuesday night to kick off the week of action. 

He added to his totals for the week when the Mustangs traveled to Cambridge, Massachusetts to participate in the 2009 Eastern Nazarene College Tournament Classic.  With two solid performances from Jones, the Mount Ida men's basketball team took home the title with a 22 point bludgeoning in a 102-80 victory over Mitchell College. 

In the opening round of the ENC tournament, the Mustangs matched-up against visiting New England College with Mount Ida capturing an 81-71 win over the Pilgrims.  Jones notched a game high 19 points with four caroms and three steals to aid in the first round victory.

In the title game win over Mitchell, Jones was again solid tallying 13 points with three boards and three assists going 3-5 from downtown. 

Not only does the Mount Ida men's basketball team lead the entire conference in scoring offense (506 pts, 84.3 avg/g), assists (101 assists, 16.8 avg/g), and steals (64 steals, 10.7 avg/g), Jones is tied for the lead for the entire conference in scoring.  In the six games played so far this season, Jones is averaging 22.8 points a game with an amazing .878 percent from the free throw line sinking 36-41 from the line along with a .434 percentage from three-point land. 

The Mustangs host their second GNAC bid this Tuesday against Emerson College starting at 6:00 p.m.
