CHERIE PARISI NAMED GNAC PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK

Mount Ida College women's basketball senior Cherie Parisi (South Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) was selected as Player-of-the-Week for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) this week.  This was Parisi's first honor of the winter season for the GNAC weekly awards.

Parisi helped the Mustangs go 1-1 last week notching her first double-double of the season against hosting non-conference UMASS-Boston in a 52-41 win netting 13 points and 10 boards.  Parisi would tally 17 points with seven rebounds in a tough 94-60 loss to visiting non-conference Western New England College last Thursday.

In the nine games Parisi has played in so far this season she is averaging 13.9 points a game with 7.3 caroms a game and is shooting .773 percent from the foul line.  She is the second highest scorer for the Mustangs so far this year behind fellow senior Nicole Casimiro (Lee, NH/Oyster River) (14.3 ppg).  Parisi hit the 1,000 point threshold in the final regular season game last year against Suffolk University.  She will look to continue her solid play throughout 2009-2010 and help the Mustangs gain a berth into the GNAC tournament for the first time ever.

Parisi is eighth in scoring, 15th in rebounding, 10th in free throw percentage, and fifth in offensive boards in GNAC action.

The Mustangs have finished their contests heading into the holiday and semester break and will re-start the action on Thursday, January 7th, 2010 against visiting non-conference Framingham State College starting at 6:00 p.m.
