KNIBBS SELECTED AS ECFC DEFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK

Mount Ida College sophomore defensive end A.J. Knibbs (Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood) has been named this week’s Mustang-of-the-Week for the week of Monday, September 27, 2010.  Knibbs made five solo tackles including a sack, two pass break ups, and two quarterback hurries en route to the Mustangs first Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) victory of 2010.   The win came against 2009 ECFC defending champion Norwich University in a 22-21 nail biter Saturday afternoon in Newton, Massachusetts on homecoming.  Before Saturday’s win, the Mustangs had never beaten the Cadets in 12 previous tries through the past 10 seasons.

On third and 11 with under a minute to go in the contest, Knibbs sacked Norwich quarterback Kris Sabourin for a huge loss bringing up fourth down at the 50 yard line for a last second  hail mary attempt by the visitors to squash the Cadets chances for a miracle comeback.

Knibbs was named on Monday as the defensive player-of-the-week for the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) weekly awards.

The Mount Ida College football team will travel to visiting ECFC member Castleton State College Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
