FOOTBALL'S FRANK GREENE NAMED MUSTANG-OF-THE-WEEK
Mount Ida College football sophomore defensive back Frank Greene (Hamden, CT/Hamden) has been named this week’s Mustang-of-the-week. Greene was also honored as the Defensive Player-of-the-Week for the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC). This is the first time any Mount Ida football has been selected for weekly honors yet for 2011.
Out of the five turnovers the Mustang defense forced in a 7-3 non-league victory over visiting Hartwick College Saturday afternoon on homecoming in Newton, Massachusetts, Greene was credited with three of them.
Greene intercepted two balls, both in the second half, but his most worthy statistic of the day was forcing a fumble on the visitors final drive that would be recovered by junior tailback/safety Johrone Bunch (Meriden, CT/F.T. Maloney). The Mustangs would take a knee at that point to seal the win, their first of 2011. Greene also added 2.5 tackles for the contest.
Mount Ida will travel to Northfield, Vermont this coming Saturday for their first conference match-up of the season against rival Norwich University with game time slated for 2:00 p.m.
