STEVEN MACDONALD NAMED MUSTANG-OF-THE-WEEK
Mount Ida College men’s soccer sophomore forward Steven MacDonald (Medford, MA/Arlington Catholic) has been named this week’s Mustang-of-the-Week. MacDonald was also selected to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honor roll for the first time in his career. MacDonald notched the tying and game winner in a 3-2 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over visiting rival Lasell College Monday (October 10, 2011) afternoon on Columbus Day.
Starting the second half in the 55th minute of play, MacDonald and freshman Michael Templeton (Charlestown, NH/Fall Mountain) both tried to carom a big punt by Mustang goaltender Mat Pils (Monroe, CT/Masuk) traveling three quarters of the field. The ball bounced high off of Templeton that landed at the feet of MacDonald who blasted a shot by Laser goaltender freshman Aren Moorman (Smoerset, NJ/Home School) tying the game at 2-2 for his first tally of the game.
In the 80th minute of play, MacDonald converted his second goal of the game to break a stalemate at 2-2 on a head ball into a wide open net.
The Mustangs haven't beaten the Lasers since the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) championship in 2005 winning 4-3 in penalty kicks.
Mount Ida men’s soccer will travel to their final league bid of the season this Saturday against hosting St. Joseph’s College (ME) with game time slated for 2:30 p.m.
