BUNCH NAMED ECFC CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
Mount Ida College senior running back Johrone Bunch (Meriden, CT/F.T. Maloney) has been named this week’s Mustang-of-the-Week. Bunch, who was also selected as Co-Player-of-the-Week for the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC), notched two rushing touchdowns, and threw for another, tallying 160 yards rushing in a 28-12 league victory over visiting Gallaudet University Saturday afternoon. This is the first time this season Bunch has been recognized for this weekly honor.
With the performance Bunch becomes the all-time leader in the Mount Ida College football record books for rushing yards in a career (4,245) surpassing alumnus Antwan Harris who has held the record since 2006. Bunch broke the record with 43 fewer carries (785) than Harris throughout his career.
Bunch is 12th nationally throughout all of the NCAA Division III schools in rushing and leads the ECFC in yards per game on the ground with 155.8. He is the only player in the league to be averaging over 100 yards a contest for the year.
Bunch and the Mustangs will their final home contest of the season against visiting Castleton State College in league action on senior day with game time slated for 12:00 noon.
