STUDENTS/COACH ATTEND DIV. III LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

Juniors Derek Broughton (Peabody, MA/Peabody) and Kira Feeter (Keene, NH/Keene) were selected to represent Mount Ida College at the 2010 Division III Northeast Regional Student-Athlete Leadership Conference in Jersey City, New Jersey. The two will be attending the conference with head softball coach Katie Zuman from January 22-24, 2010.
The conference was established for NCAA Division III student-athletes, coaches and administrators to enhance their personal development and leadership skills in order to positively affect their campus, conference and communities in the future.
As representatives, the trio will participate in numerous educational sessions focused on the development and growth of student-athletes on campus or within their conference. Sessions offered at the conference provide a greater understanding of the NCAA, the Division III governance and legislation process, and the Division III National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Other Division specific and association-wide issues like; sportsmanship, diversity, nutrition, mental health, game environment will also be explored at the conference.
Broughton and Feeter were selected as representatives due to the leadership qualities they have displayed during their time at Mount Ida. Broughton, a sports management major, is a three-year starter on the men's lacrosse team and has been a captain since his sophomore year. Feeter, a business administration major, is a two-sport athlete for the women's volleyball and women's lacrosse teams. Additionally, she is heavily involved with Mount Ida's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is active in promoting Mount Ida athletics around campus.
The overall goal of the group is to be able to return and actively apply the knowledge gained at the conference to create positive and lasting change throughout the NCAA structure and the Mount Ida community.
"This was an amazing opportunity for Mount Ida, especially for
our student representatives,"
said head softball coach Katie Zuman. "We are all excited to
take what we've learned in the conference and apply it to our teams
and programs."
