MUSTANGS DROP TO ROCHESTER

The Mount Ida College Football team hosted the University of Rochester for the first time in their history on a beautiful Mustang homecoming day.

The Yellowjackets started the game off with a six play 49 yard drive with every play running except for one. Matt Bielecki (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills) punched one in from six yards out for the first of his four touchdowns making it 6-0 after a block point after attempt. The UR running back had a career day with an incredible 233 rushing yards, topping his overall best in a game of 230 set last year.

The Mustangs would answer back with a score of their own on a 12 yard pass to freshman wide out Steven Harris (Plantation, FL/Plantation) from quarterback P.J. Matthews (Baltimore, MD/Patterson). The drive went for six plays on 41 yards making it 7-6 MIC. It was the first of three touchdowns Matthews would have on the day totaling 387 yards through the air

Rochester would reel off the next four scores, tallying the next 27 points with out an answer from Mount Ida. The Yellowjackets had some long scoring drives including one that went end zone to end zone, going 20 plays for 96 yards milking 7:30 off the clock in the second quarter.

RC would make it 12-7 at the end of the first quarter on an 11 yard run by Bielecki, two plays for 14 yards, the PAT would be missed off the post. They would add another by air on a 15 yard pass from quarterback Adam Barrett (Avon, NY/Avon) to wide out Zach Ingoldsby (Allison Park, PA/Hampton) popping in the two point conversion making it 20-7 in favor of the visitors. Barrett would go 4-9 with 46 yards gained and one touchdown pass.

The Yellowjackets would continue to pound the run giving the ball again to Bielecki on a one yard dive making it 26-7. The two point conversion would not be converted on their biggest drive of the day. They would tack on one more before the half on a three yard run by backup freshman running back Clarence Onyiriuka (Painted Post, NY/Corning West) on a three play, 89 yard running display making it 33-7 midway.

Mount Ida would come out in the third trying to make it a game on a 20 yard run by running back Mark Skehan (Irvington, NY/Irvington). The Mustangs put together a solid drive on a seven play, 75 yard display to make it respectable, 33-14. Skehan had a tremendous day individually with two touchdowns, one on the ground and one by air via Matthews.

RC would put one through the uprights from 35 yards out by Griffin Moar (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) to push more distance between the two teams with 6:03 left in the third quarter making it 36-14.

Skehan would get his second score of the day on a screen pass by Matthews. He would weave through the defense and catch daylight for 59 yards and his second touchdown of the day on a six play 95 yard drive making it 36-21 visitors.

Bielecki would finish things off with his second one yard dive on a 10 play 52 yard drive milking 3:48 off the clock going up 43-21, pulling away with 10:04 left in the fourth quarter. The Mustangs would add a meaningless touchdown at the end on a pass from Matthews to freshman receiver James Samuels (Lauderhill, FL/South Plantation) for his first touchdown of the season. Kicker Bobby Cordosa (Stoughton, MA/Stoughton) would miss the PAT ending the game at 27-43.

The Mustangs would drop their record to 2-5 on the season and the Yellowjackets would raise theirs to an even .500 at 3-3, 2-1 in the Liberty League Conference.

Mount Ida will head to Hartwick College next weekend to try and regroup and regain momentum with kickoff beginning at 2:00 p.m.
