MUSTANGS DROP TO HARTWICK, Kyle Watkins Has Seven Catches For 139 Yards
The Mount Ida College Football team traveled to Oneonta, New
York this weekend for a showdown with Hartwick College hoping to
get back on track to solidify their third win. It was a tight game
until the home team broke it open, with most of the momentum on the
side of the Mustangs going into the second half. But the Hawks
scored quickly to put it out of reach, handing MIC their sixth loss
of the season.
Hartwick scored the first 14 points of the game both on passes from
quarterback Jack Phelan (Slingerlands, NY) to wide out Jason Boltus
(Baldwinsville, NY) for scores making it 14-0 in favor of the Hawks
with 8:54 left in the second quarter.
But the Mustangs would come back with a score of their own;
Mark Skehan (Irvington,
NY/Irvington) would pick up where he left off
last week tallying his third touchdown in two games on a two yard
run making it 7-14 after the Bobby Cardosa (Stoughton,
MA/Stoughton) PAT was good.
With 2:04 to go before halftime, Hartwick would float one in the
end zone on a halfback pass from Noah Koreman (Albany, NY) to Sean
McKenna (Massapequa, NY) making it 21-7 after the extra point.
The Mustangs would come storming back off a 13 play drive ending
with a one yard quarterback sneak by P.J. Matthews
(Baltimore, MD/Patterson) on the last play before the
half making it 21-14 in favor of the home team, Mount Ida would
have the momentum.
Unfortunately, the visitors could not put any kind of drive
together in the second set. Hartwick would come out in the third
quarter with a seven play, 65 yard drive finishing on a 15 yard run
by Lindy Crea (Binghamton, NY) for his first touchdown of the day.
He would add another score with 6:52 left in the third on a 65 yard
run to make it 35-14 in favor of the Hawks.
The game would end there with no scores in the fourth quarter and
very little offense by both teams. The Mustangs were led by the
tandem of Kyle Watkins (New Haven,CT/James
Hillhouse) and Matthews. Matthews would pass for 242
yards with a touchdown, while Watkins caught seven passes for 139
yards. Skehan led the rushing attack with 75 yards and 22
carries.
Mount Ida will host Gallaudet University this Saturday for a 1:00
p.m. start. They have two games remaining this season, both will be
at home.
