INCOMING FRESHMAN NAMED MVP IN GOVERNOR'S CUP

When Maloney High School's Johrone Bunch (Meriden, CT/F.T. Maloney) first ventured onto the practice field with this year's Connecticut All-Stars, he had some initial doubts about what his role would end up being with the football team.

"When I first practiced, I thought I can't hang with these guys," Bunch, who will play basketball at Mount Ida this winter, said. "These guys are good. This is the best talent in Connecticut. But I came out and worked harder and every practice tried to get better every day. I just worked hard and kept my head in a positive way and said I can do this, I can hang with them."

Bunch proved that he could easily hang with his teammates during the past two weeks, but Saturday night at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, the Rhode Island All-Stars were able to hang with Connecticut for merely a half.

Connecticut scored 10 points in the final 1:05 of the first half to gain a 17-7 halftime lead and pulled away with two unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter en route to a 31-10 win in the 10th annual Governor's Cup game......
