BUNCH NAMED ECAC CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK

The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced today that Mount Ida College football sophomore running back Johrone Bunch (Meriden, CT/F.T. Maloney) was selected as division III ECAC Co-Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Check out the release here.
Bunch set the program record with five touchdowns in a game paired with 351 yards on the ground in a 39-7 routing against Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) first year member Castleton State College in Newton, Massachusetts this past Saturday on a wet and soggy homecoming afternoon.
Bunch's five touchdowns and 351 rushing yards puts him 19th all-time in the Division III record books for rushing yards in a game. He now ranks 12th in NCAA division III statistics in 2009 in total rushing yards and tallied the highest rushing total of the season out of all NCAA division III programs in the country so far this season.
Bunch was also selected to the Boston Herald sports columnist John Connolly's "Herald Heroes" as the best offensive football player in the region for the week. He was also named Eastern Collegiate Football Conference's (ECFC) offensive-player-of-the-week. Bunch was also featured in his hometown newspaper, The Meriden Record-Journal, on Sunday about his amazing statistical feat.
Bunch leads all running backs in NCAA division III play this season in rushing yards with 855 net yards, nine touchdowns, and 6.43 yards a carry.
The Mustangs will travel to Worcester, Massachusetts to play ECFC member Becker College this Saturday starting at 12:00 p.m.
