RICHARD DYKAS II 1986 - 2010

The Mount Ida College Athletic Department is saddened to learn of the recent passing of football alumnus Richard Dykas II. Richie died tragically in a motor vehicle accident early Sunday morning in Bucksport, Maine.  Dykas, a 2008 sports management graduate, played four seasons for the football team as a punter and wide receiver and was an enthusiastic supporter of all Mount Ida's athletic teams.

"Richie was one of the best kids I have ever coached," said Mount Ida College director of football operations and current offensive line coach Bill Liedy who coached Dykas during his tenure as a Mustang.  "He was a smart, tough football player and one of the only players that became a true friend after he played for me.  He was a great leader who will be missed by everyone who had the chance to know him."

Richard was the holder for the first ever field goal in Mount Ida history in 2007 against visiting Becker College and his career statistics include 1186 punting yards, 262 receiving yards, and one touchdown catch.  After graduating from Mount Ida in 2008, Richard went on to coach at Curry College in Milton, Massachusetts for one season and served as the defensive secondary coach at Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, Maine for the past two seasons until his tragic death Sunday.

A wake will be held at the George Doherty and Sons Funeral home in Dedham, Massachusetts on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service Friday morning at St. Mary's Church at 11:00 a.m. also located in Dedham.  The Mount Ida football team will wear helmet decals memorializing Richie for the remainder of their 2010 season.
