PAUL SHAUGHNESSY SELECTED TO PLAY IN ALL-AMERICAN BOWL

Mount Ida College football senior running back Paul Shaughnessy (Malden, MA/Northeast Metro Regional) has been selected to participate in the 2010 Metrodome All-American Bowl in Bloomington, Minnesota on December 18, 2010. This is the first time any Mount Ida football player has been given the opportunity to play in a setting like this which could possibly lead to a higher level of play for Shaughnessy down the road.

"I am blessed to have been given this opportunity and feel honored that I've been selected," said Shaughnessy.  "There has been a lot of hard work and dedication and it's beginning to pay off."

The All American Bowl was founded in 1996 to give athletes the opportunity to compete against the best at their level in an all star game setting. The All American Bowl was created to fill the void of the lack of all star games available to athletes in High School, DII, DIII, JUCO, and minor league football. In April of 1996, the first All American Bowl was played in Minnesota and has since been played at various cities across the country including Atlanta, Miami, and Las Vegas. The All American Bowl also gives athletes the potential to be scouted by colleges and professional football teams.

"It's a great opportunity to be able to showcase my talents to others and have a shot at furthering my career as a player," said Shaughnessy.  "I'm excited to get there and compete against other top division II and III players in the country."

Shaughnessy will depart for the three day event on December 16th and will practice with his team for two days before game time slated for 2:00 p.m. on December 18th at the Metrodome.

Paul was honored with an Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) offensive second team all-conference selection, his first time receiving the recognition as an all-conference player during his four year career as Mustang.  Shaughnessy, who became one of the most versatile players in Mount Ida football history, finished his final season with the Mustangs with a combined 13 touchdowns (six rushing, seven receiving) filling in for an injured Johrone Bunch after week six.  On the ground, Shaughnessy racked up 857 yards on 154 carries for the season.  Through the air, Shaughnessy was also impressive with 663 yards on 50 catches.

He was ranked fifth in the conference in rushing averaging 81.3 yards a game and 6.1 yards a carry.   He eclipsed 100 yards four times rushing and 200 once throughout the season.  Shaughnessy is ranked fourth all-time in rushing yards (1362) in his four year career as a Mustang.  He was named the ECFC offensive player-of-the-week back on November 1st when he ran for 261 yards and three touchdowns also adding one catch for 13 yards and a touchdown en route to a 25-23 ECFC victory over hosting Husson University in week eight.
