JOHNSON & WALES COOKS UP SIXTH GNAC LOSS FOR MEN'S BASKETBALL, Otis Thompson and Matt Bennett lead offense

The Mount Ida College Men’s Basketball team traveled to Johnson and Wales University this past Thursday losing 35-87 and dropping their sixth Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game of the season. The Mustangs record would plunge to 6-10 overall, 3-6 in league play.

Johnson & Wales opened up the game with a 13-3 run, capped by a three pointer at the 13:11 mark. The Wildcats then used a 15-2 run and held a 28-5 advantage on one from downtown at the 8:18 mark. JWU took a 47-12 lead into the locker room after holding Mount Ida to 16% from the field while forcing 16 turnovers.

The Wildcats continued to build on their lead early in the second half and took a 68-28 lead on a three-pointer midway through the end of regulation. J & W would keep piling it on cruising to the 87-35 victory. Mt. Ida was held to just 28.3% shooting from the field and the Mustangs committed 29 turnovers in the loss.

Junior Otis Thompson (Gardner, MA/Gardner) led the way for Mount Ida with nine points and nine rebounds. Junior Matt Bennett (Rochester, NH/Spaulding) added six points and seven boards in the setback for the Mustangs.

Mount Ida will host Rivier College this Saturday for their 10 conference match-up of the season with tip-off starting at 1:00 p.m.
