College this Tuesday night dropping a tough 88-70 loss. The
Mustangs dropped to 7-15 overall and 4-11 in league competition
while the Lions move to 19-3 overall and 12-3 in the GNAC.
In a game that had only one lead change and 44 fouls committed,
Mount Ida started the first half with a 6-2 run that was led by
Junior center Otis Thompson (Gardner,
MA/Gardner) who had all of his eight points in the
first stanza. A three pointer by Junior guard Michael
Dunham (Salem, NH/Salem) would cut the lead to 16-13.
Emerson would come barrelling back pulling ahead by 15 with 4:51 to
go until the break of a jumper by Lions senior Will Dawkins
(Springfield, MA/Commerce). Emerson would keep on cruising and
would end the half with a three pointer by visiting junior guard
Anthony Remias (Cranberry Township, PA/N. Catholic) to make it
48-32 in favor of the Lions.
EC would continue their hot shooting from beyond the arc giving the
hosts no chance for a comeback and ending the game by making 40
percent from downtown. Although the Mustangs would not let up, the
visitors would pull ahead by a game high 21 points with 13:36
remaining and would never look back.
The Mustangs would be led by Junior forward Matt
Bennett (Rochester, NH/Spaulding) who would netted a
team high 12 points and five rebounds, he was the only MIC player
in double figures. There would be some promising performances with
outstanding offensive and defensive play from Freshman guards
Gary Alvarez, Jr. (Springfield, MA/ Springfield
Central) and Brian Hapgood (Braintree,
MA/ Braintree) who scored six and four points
respectively.
Emerson was led by three players in double figures including a game
high 23 points from sophomore Bryan Rouse (E. Greenwich, RI/Toll
Gate). Senior Ben Chase (Newburyport, MA/Newburyport) and sophomore
Jeremy Shannon (Lowell, MA/Canterbury School) would combine for 35
