Mount Ida College men's basketball senior Matt Bennett (Rochester, NH/Spaulding) was selected yesterday to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) third team all-conference for first time in his career as a Mustang.
Bennett, who started in 22 out of 23 games in 2008-09, led the Mustangs in points per game (15.9), rebounds per game (8.7), steals (46), minutes played (793), and average minutes a game (34.5). He led Mount Ida to four more victories than the previous season (7) going 11-14 overall on the year.
His best game of the season came against non-conference Eastern Nazarene College in the opening contest of the year. Bennett netted 26 points, nine boards, and one block in the 74-71 victory. He scored in double figures in all but one game throughout the year tallying seven double-doubles and five games with 20 or more points.
Also, freshman women's basketball forward Hannah Blum (Raleigh, NC/Broughton) and junior men's basketball point guard Darren Martinez (Mattapan, MA/Brookline) were selected to the GNAC Sportsmanship Team for their respective teams as well.
Congratulations to Matt, Hannah, and Darren on these wonderful accomplishments!
