MEN'S LAX TAKES FIRST CONFERENCE VICTORY OF SEASON AGAINST THOMAS COLLEGE WINNING 19-4, Brett Conley Nets Four

The Mount Ida College Men’s Lacrosse team would host their first home game of the season and their first North Atlantic Conference (NAC) match up against Thomas College today in Newton, MA notching a 19-4 victory. MIC would better their overall record to 2-3, 1-0 in the NAC, while the Terriers drop to 0-2, 0-1 in league play.

The Mustangs would come out the gates early and often with junior attackman tallying the first three goals of the contest giving the hosts the 3-0 lead with 2:43 remaining the first quarter. Junior Leo Shidler (Peabody, MA/Peabody) would tandem with Conley on two of his goals with the assists.

The hosts would continue to dominate the competition firing in three more goals before the first quarter horn blew with freshmen Eric Gilston (Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury) and Nate Prince (West Gardiner, ME/Gardiner Area) notching their first goals of the season making it 5-0 in favor of the Mustangs; Shidler would gain another assist. Eventually, MIC would tally one more with four seconds remaining in the first verse on an unassisted goal by sophomore John Perez (Dorcester, MA/Wayland) going into the second quarter leading 6-0.

The offense would continue for Mount Ida in the second with a firing squad of freshman pounding the net helping stretch their advantage to 10-0 off four goals. Freshman attack standout Matt Savage (Peabody, MA/Peabody) notched his first two goals of his career within three minutes of each other. Gilston would also net his second, while freshman Paul Battapaglia (Clinton, CT/Morgan) also tallied his first of the season.

Finally, the Terriers would get on the board with 2:02 remaining before the midway break off a goal by junior Mike Ross (York, ME/York). The Mustangs were not done before the half, with two quick hitter goals by freshman Derek Broughton (Peabody, MA/Peabody), also the first of his career, making the score 12-1. The visitors would add one more with 1:20 showing on the clock right before the horn with sophomore Kolby Peckham (West Gardiner, ME/Gardiner Area) netting goal two for TC with the score at 12-2 heading into halftime.

With the Mustangs leading by 10 goals, it was pretty much out of reach for the Terriers. Thomas could only tally two more before the final whistle, while Mount Ida continued to pound away at the offense. Prince, Battapaglia, and Conley would all notch another goal for MIC with freshman Travis Roache (Hyde Park, MA/MATCH),Anthony DiMarsico (Fairport, NY/Fairport), and Adam Stamatakos (Barrington, RI/Barrington) all netting their first goals as Mustangs. Leo Shidler would cap things off with his only goal of the contest off a sweet pass from freshman Michael Haseotes (Duxbury, MA/HYDE School).

When it was all said and done, Mount Ida would walk away with not only a 19-4 conference victory, but a sign for things to come in the future with some incredible performances by many of the young players.

The Mustangs will head across town to face another conference opponent in Emerson College starting at 5:00 p.m. this coming Tuesday.
