SENIOR JOHN LIGHTBOWN BREAKS PROGRAM RECORD FOR CAREER GOALS AND MUSTANGS CRUISE TO 23-4 CONFERENCE VICTORY OVER BECKER COLLEGE ON SENIOR DAY, Junior Brett Conley Nets Three
Senior John Lightbown (Melrose,
MA/Melrose) broke the Mount Ida College Men’s
Lacrosse program record for goals in a career netting four scores
and two assists in a 23-4 victory over North Atlantic Conference
(NAC) member Becker College this Wednesday on senior day. After
setting the record with 12:17 left in the third quarter, he would
inch closer to taking over as the all time leader in points needing
only one more tally in the next three regular season games. The
Mustangs would stay perfect in the NAC at 6-0 and better to 9-5
overall while the Hawks drop to 4-3 on the season, 2-3 in league
play.
Mount Ida would score the first nine goals of the contest and keep
the visitors quiet the entire opening quarter. MIC junior
Brett Conley (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield
Warde) would tally four goals and one assist during
the beginning barrage of offense by the Mustangs. Lightbown, junior
Anthony DiMarsico (Fairport,
NY/Fairport), freshmen Paul Battapaglia
(Clinton, CT/Morgan) and Matt Savage
(Peabody, MA/Peabody) each netted one a piece during
the opening strike taking the 9-0 lead.
The Hawks would finally get on the board with 8:16 showing in the
second quarter on a score by freshman Eric Sweet (Moretown,
VT/Harwood Union) making it 9-1.
After an exchange of goals by both teams, the Mustangs would reel
off another nine unanswered scores including two in a row for
Lightbown to give him the record. Freshmen Adam
Stamatakos (Barrington, RI/Barrington) and junior
Travis Roache (Hyde Park, MA/MATCH) added
two a piece during the offensive thump taking the 18-2 advantage.
It would be all over from there with a string of goals from the
Mustangs giving them the 23-4 victory, good for their sixth in the
North Atlantic Conference (NAC).
Mount Ida would see first time season scores from senior
Tom Watts (Ardmore, PA/Lower Merion),
junior Craig Heintzelman (Windham,
NH/Salem), and freshman Billy Eagan
(North Andover, MA/North Andover). Sophomore
John Perez (Dorchester, MA/Wayland) and
freshman Dan Harrington (Westford, MA/Westford
Academy) would chip in two a piece along with one
from freshman transfer Breadan Draper (Lexington,
KY/Lexington Catholic/Nazareth).
The Hawks would combine for three more goals from sophomore’s
Aaron Fill (Lander, British Columbia/Delta) and Josh Fask
(Worcester, MA/Doherty).
Sophomore goaltender Matt Vernik (Bethany, CT/Amity
Regional) saved five shots for the Mustangs and was
relieved by senior Luke Philip Wilson (Essex, MA/Ipswich) would
stop four. Becker saw sophomore Peter Fellows (Boylston,
MA/O’Neill) deny 18 Mount Ida shots.
The Mustangs will travel to Johnson State this coming Saturday with
the opening face off coming at 2:00 p.m.
