MEN'S LAX POWERS 21-3 VICTORY OVER GREEN MOUNTAIN

The Mount Ida College men's lacrosse team continued their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) six year winning streak to 39-0 beating visiting Great Mountain College 21-3 on Wednesday afternoon.  The Mustangs improve to 3-4 overall and a perfect 2-0 in the NAC while the Eagles drop to 0-2 on the year, 0-2 in conference play.

The Mustangs got on the board first on a goal by freshman Zach Jacobson (Shoreview, MN/Moundsview) from senior Leo Shidler (Peabody, MA/Peabody) making it 1-0 in the first three minutes.  The Eagles answered quickly off an unassisted goal by sophomore Edgar Vigil (Marlborough, MA/Marlborough) knotting the score at 1-1.

It was all over after that while the Mustangs fired in 11 consecutive goals taking the outright 12-1 lead at the end of the second quarter.  Senior captains Shidler and Brett Conley (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) combined for five goals in the span including three from Shidler.

Senior Alex Champagne (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich) chipped in two during the two quarter offensive strike while four other players, Nate Prince (West Gardiner, ME/Gardiner Area), Paul Battapaglia (Clinton, CT/Morgan), Dan Harrington (Westford, MA/Westford Academy), and Jacobson added one a piece.  The Mustangs headed into the break leading 12-1.

The Eagles netted their second goal of the game in the opening of the third quarter off a feed from sophomore Eric Rue (Deerfield, IL/Landmark Prep) to junior Thomas Wheeler (Seattle, WA/Roosevelt) making it 12-2 Mount Ida.

Two more quick scores by the Mustangs from senior Anthony DiMarsico (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and freshman Ian Saunders (Glens Falls, NYGlens Falls) gave Mount Ida a 14-2 advantage in the beginning of the third quarter.  The Eagles found the net for their third and final goal of the contest midway through the third quarter on a Chris Wetzel (Highland Falls, NY/James I. O'Neill) score trailing 14-3.

That was all the offense the visitors could muster while the Mustangs went on a 7-0 run to end the game.  Senior Andrew Morton (Hampton, NH/Winnacunnet) scored his first goal of the season on a man down attempt to stretch the lead to 15-3.

After a two more scores from the hosts by junior Jonathan Perez (Dorcester, MA/Wayland) and Prince taking the 17-3 advantage, senior Craig Heintzelman (Windham, NH/Salem) found the net for his first score of the year up 18-3.

Junior's Frank Rozio (Clinton, CT/Morgan), Michael Simone (Dover, NH/St. Thomas Aquinas), and sophomore Breandan Draper (Lexington, KY/Lexington Catholic) fired in the final three goals of the contest capturing the 21-3 victory.

Mount Ida dominated the entire field on all statistical categories including shots (59-13) and ground balls (64-16).  The Eagles were tough on face-offs going 11-28 while the Mustangs were 17-28.  Mount Ida went 18-19 in clear attempts to Green Mountain's 3-19.

The Mustangs will travel to NAC rival Castleton State College this coming Saturday for their next game starting at 1:00 p.m.
