BRETT CONLEY NAMED NAC PLAYER OF THE YEAR IN '09
Mount Ida College men's lacrosse senior captain Brett Conley (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) has been selected as the 2009 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Player-of-the-Year. This is the second time in Conley's career that he was honored with this award when he received it his freshman season along with Rookie-of-the-Year honors in 2006. Conley, who is a four time all-conference selection, led the NAC in assists with 33 during conference play.
Conley has broken three of the biggest records in the Mount Ida men's lacrosse career books this season snapping the goals (172), assists (132), and points (304) records in a career. He had an outstanding ending to a very successful career in 2009 tallying 40 goals and 47 assists good for 87 points in 18 games played throughout this year.
His five goal one assist performance in the semifinal round of the NAC men's lacrosse tournament against visiting Maine Maritime Academy was one of his best games of the year. In the final regular season match-up against Emerson College, Conley notched an amazing four goals and seven assists good for 11 points and the record for most points in a contest in the Mount Ida men's lacrosse books.
Brett has overtaken the number one spot in the NCAA Division III statistical books for points this season standing at 87 and holds the second place spot in assists with 47.
Along with Conley, five other Mount Ida lacrosse players were honored with NAC all-conference selections. Sophomore attackman Matthew Savage (Peabody, MA/Peabody), who is one goal (52) shy of tying the all time record for goals in a season as a Mustang, was selected to the NAC first team all-conference. Senior midfielder Christopher Prophete (Waltham, MA/Waltham) was also honored with NAC first team all-conference honors for the first time in his career. Prophete, who missed all of last season due to a knee injury, has created a big impact for Mount Ida and will be a very important part to the Mustangs quest for a sixth consecutive conference championship.
Senior captain Leo Shidler (Peabody, MA/Peabody) received second team NAC all-conference honors for the second year in a row. Shidler, who is also a four time all-conference selection along with Conley, enjoyed another stellar season with 24 goals, 23, assists, for 47 points. Sophomore long stick midfielder Billy Eagan (North Andover, MA/North Andover) was also selected to the NAC second team all-conference as well. This was the first time Eagan has received conference honors in his career at Mount Ida. Senior midfielder Anthony DiMarsico (Fairport, NY/Fairport) was acknowledged with an honorable mention who has been an asset to the Mustangs this season with 12 goals and seven assists.
The Mount Ida College men's lacrosse team will travel to Castleton, Vermont this coming Saturday to defend their title and compete for their sixth consecutive NAC championship against Castleton State College starting at 1:00 p.m.
