MUSTANGS BLANK HORNETS IN 25-0 BLOWOUT
The Mount Ida College men's lacrosse team crushed hosting North Atlantic Conference (NAC) competition Lyndon State College this past Saturday posting their third shutout in school history winning 25-0. The Mustangs improve to 4-6 overall, 2-2 in NAC play.
Mount Ida jumped out to a 9-0 lead after one quarter of play and coasted from there on out with zero answer from the Hornets. Matthew Savage (Peabody, MA/Peabody) led the barrage with a three goals while Brett Conley (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde), Derek O'Reilly (East Setauket, NY/Ward Melville), Paul Battipaglia (Clinton, CT/Morgan), Zach Jacobson (Shoreview, MN/Moundsview), and Christopher Prophete (Waltham, MA/Waltham) chipped in two each.
Michael Simone (Dover, NH/St. Thomas Aquinas), Derek Broughton (Peabody, MA/Peabody), Leo Shidler (Peabody, MA/Peabody), Dan Harrington (Westford, MA/Westford Academy), Billy Gerke (Essex, VT/Rice Memorial), Nate Prince (West Gardiner, ME/Gardiner Area), and Craig Heintzelman (Windham, NH/Salem) added one goal each for the Mustangs as did Sean Slattery (South Burlington, VT/South Burlington), John Perez (Dorcester, MA/Wayland), Breandan Draper (Lexington, KY/Lexington Catholic), Matt Vernik (Bethany, CT/Amity Regional), and Anthony DiMarsico (Fairport, NY/Fairport).
Conley collected six assists in the contest, Alex Champagne (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich) had three and the trio of Broughton, Shidler and Simone earned two each. Vernik, James McAllister (Smithfield, RI/LaSalle Academy) and Craig Naftal (Bellimore, NY/JFK) combined to make five saves for Mount Ida, who improved to 4-6 overall and 3-1 in the NAC.
Mount Ida returns to action on Monday when they travel to Portland, Maine to face St. Joseph's College at Fitzgerald Field. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
