TWO TRANSFERS LOOK TO HELP POWER MEN'S LAX
Two Mount Ida College men's lacrosse transfer student-athlete's look to boost the Mustangs to their sixth North Atlantic Conference (NAC) title this coming 2009 season. Transferring from Springfield College, Carl Grimo ‘12 and James McAllister ‘12 look to help power the Mustangs already stellar resume with five consecutive NAC championships and two straight NCAA tournament appearances. Grimo and McAllister, second semester freshman, attended LaSalle Academy in Providence, Rhode Island during their high school years meeting as first year students becoming very good friends. Coincidentally, they were also very highly touted lacrosse players and both have the hardware to prove it.
Grimo, a Criminal Justice major from Bristol, Rhode Island, has a very impressive resume. As a junior at LaSalle he was selected to the Rhode Island Interscholastic League's (RIIL) second team All-State as a long stick midfielder. His senior season he was honored with RIIL first team All-State recognition.
Grimo was recruited by Mount Ida Head Coach Andrew Fink but decided at the last minute to join the Pride. He would eventually figure out that Springfield was not going to be the right fit for him and contacted Coach Fink. Grimo feels he will bring speed in the midfield position along with a solid commitment to the team.
McAllister, an Applied Forensic Science major from Smithfield, Rhode Island, also has an extraordinary high school track record as a player. During his junior year at LaSalle he was selected to the RIIL's second team All-State as a goaltender. His senior season was outstanding as well selected to the RIIL first team All-State. McAllister's most rewarding honor was an All-American selection his senior year.
McAllister, like Grimo, would figure out that Springfield was not the place for him and eventually transfer to Mount Ida. McAllister feels he will bring good leadership, 100 percent effort, and dedication to the men's lacrosse program.
The Mustangs will travel to Curry College for their first game of the season on March 3, 2009 starting at 3:00 p.m.
