"I have been pleased with the leadership these four have displayed thus far; they have been and will be essential to our pursuit of a fourth straight NCAA Tournament bid this upcoming season."

Matt Vernik, the 2008 team MVP and a 2007 NAC All-Tournament team selection, enters his senior season as one of the most prolific shot-stoppers in Mount Ida history. Defenseman Bryan Seaman had a breakout 2009 season in which he started 19 of 20 games, scooping up 36 ground balls and scoring one goal in the process. Always a physical presence on the defense, Seaman also established himself as a vocal and emotional leader. His 2009 season was capped by a selection to the NAC All-Tournament Team.

Fellow defenseman Dan Kelley has been a stalwart performer for the Mount Ida defense since his freshman year. In 2009, he started 16 of 17 games, accumulated 22 ground balls and had 1 assist. Kelley started in 17 of 19 games in 2008 where he picked up 28 groundballs, while adding 1 goal and 2 assists. Lastly, in his first season, Kelley appeared in 15 games and ended the season with 23 groundballs.

Junior midfielder Derek Broughton played in all 20 games last season for the Mustangs, in which he recorded 5 goals, 3 assists, and 39 groundballs. During his rookie season, Broughton appeared in 17 games and totaled 4 goals, 2 assists, and 36 groundballs. His efforts and constant hard work in the 2008 season earned Broughton the Most Improved Player award.

The Mustangs will look to extend their streak of three consecutive NCAA births and six straight NAC titles when they open the 2010 season at Curry College on March 3rd.
