Saturday, April 13, 2013 (Paxton, Massachusetts) - The Mount Ida College men's lacrosse team defeated the AMCATS of Anna Maria College on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 15-12.  With the win, the Mustangs improve to (7-7, 6-1 GNAC) while Anna Maria falls to (5-8, 2-5 GNAC).

The Mustangs were led offensively by several players on the day.  JT Hoyt (Westfield, MA/Westfield) anchored the Mustangs by scoring five goals on nine shots in the contest.  Michael Markevich (Westminster, MA/Oakmont) and Phil Pichel (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) each recorded a hat trick on the day while Pichel also added two assists.  Zach Rosen (East Greenwich, RI/St. Andrews School) tallied two goals in the contest and also added three assists while Michael Trocchi (Danvers, MA/Danvers) and Jake Davis (Chester, NH/Pinkerton Academy) each scored for the Mustangs while Trocchi also notched a game high five assists in the win.

Pichel would score with five seconds remaining in the first period to give the visitors a 3-2 advantage after the first quarter of play.  Nathan Batallas (Baldwinville, MA) and Lucas Stralka (East Greenwich, RI) pushed across goals for AMC in the first fifteen minutes of play.

Rosen and Hoyt would open up the scoring in the second frame for Ida, giving the Mustangs a 5-2 advantage, however AMCAT Jason Baker (Billerica, MA) would notch a natural hat trick around a Markevich goal to cut the deficit to 6-5. The Mustangs would tally in two late goals to maintain an 8-5 lead at the half time.

The Mustangs notched four unanswered goals in the opening minutes of the third quarter to build a 12-6 lead.  AMC's Stralka would find freshman Scott Henry (Coventry, RI) in the slot and then tip the twine himself to get the AMCATS within five at 12-7.

Trailing 13-7, Baker would tally a pair of unassisted goals for the AMCATS to cut the lead to 13-9 with 8:34 to play on the clock. Both teams would trade a pair of goals while AMCAT Chris Summers (Long Valley, NJ) would score late for AMC, but it would prove not enough as the Mustangs came away with the hard fought Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory, 15-12.
