MEN'SS VOLLEYBALL DROPS FOURTH NECVA MATCH AGAINST RIVAL LASELL COLLEGE, Tim Hughes Showcases Immense Power
The Mount Ida College Men’s Volleyball team hosted their
first North East Collegiate Volleyball (NECVA) match tonight
against neighboring rival Lasell College dropping their third loss
bringing their record to 1-3, 1-3 in the NECVA. The Lasers would
improve to a perfect 2-0 in both the conference and overall.
Game one was back and forth with Mustang senior outside hitter
Tim Hughes (Holliston, MA/Holliston)
showcasing his talent with immense power on the edges. The score
was tied eight times throughout the first with Mount Ida up 12-10
on a smoked ball by Hughes. It would stay close up around 21-19
with MIC trailing, but the Lasers would go on a 6-0 run to pull
away and go up 1-0 winning 30-24.
It would become 2-0 in favor of Lasell College in game two going on
two 7-0 run’s to pull away quickly with no answer from the
Mustangs. Mount Ida had a tough time putting something together
only tallying 14 points with numerous passing errors. MIC had a
tough time returning kills and serves from the Lasers giving them
the 2-0 advantage going into game three winning 30-14.
It would be close in game three with the Mustangs trailing most of
the way due to errors on the passing and hitting end. Hughes and
junior setter Bryan McMenamin (Warminster, PA/William
Tennent) kept their team in it with a tag team effort
around the net. The Lasers would go up 19-24 late in the game, but
the Mustangs would comeback and pull with two. Unfortunately,
Lasell would take the match 30-25 for the 3-0 victory.
Men’s Volleyball will stay home and host Endicott College
this Friday night, January 25, with game time starting at 7:00 p.m.
