HUGHES POWERS MUSTANGS, BUT LOSE TO ENDICOTT

The Mount Ida College Men’s Volleyball team hosted Endicott College this past Friday night taking the 3-0 loss on scores of 12-30, 22-20, and 13-30. They would drop their record to 1-4 on the season while the Gulls would improve to 2-1.

Game one was all Endicott going on a 6-0 run on three Mount Ida errors giving the Gulls the 12-6 lead. The errors continued to pile up for the Mustangs while EC poured it on pulling way mostly on serving errors by MIC. The hosts were only able to muster 12 total points in the first set taking the loss and switching sides 30-12 down 1-0 in the match. The Mustangs would have 11 total errors throughout the first stanza while the Gulls would pile up the kills with eight.

It was a different story in game two with Mount Ida keeping it close only down 11-14 at the midway point. Senior outside hitter Timmy Hughes (Holliston, MA/Holliston) would keep things close with his power blasts while the rest of the team would chip in along the way. Endicott would have their fair share of errors in this one, keeping the Mustangs within striking distance at 21-27, but the Gulls would pull this one out with the 22-30 victory up 2-0 in the match.

Mount Ida reverted back to game one form while the visitors piled it on capitalizing on errors and converting kills. Junior setter Bryan McMenamin (Warminster, PA/William Tennent) along with Hughes would continue to put forth the effort, motivating their teammates to stay alive. The Mustangs would drop game three 13-30 handing them their fourth loss of the year on a shutout, 3-0.

The Mustangs will get on the road to face Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Rivier College on this coming Tuesday, January 29, for a 7:00 p.m. start.
