MEN'S VOLLEYBALL CAPTURES FIRST WIN OF SEASON 3-2

The Mount Ida College men's volleyball team captured their first North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) victory of the season over hosting Daniel Webster College, 3-2 (30-26, 29-31, 30-28, 28-30, and 15-11), Sunday afternoon in Nashua, New Hampshire.  The Mustangs improve to 1-4, but have yet to snatch a conference victory (0-2).

Mount Ida was led by junior Thomas Belton (Springfield, MA/Springfield Central) who rang up 23 kills while Ross Florexil (Lake Worth, FL/Lake Worth) notched 14 kills and Spencer Hastings added 13.

Eddie Pinero (Inwood, NY/Lawrence) dished out 55 assists for the Mustangs while Frank McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich) chipped in with six kills.

Andy Smith (Essex Junction, Vt.) tallied eight kills and nine digs for the Eagles, while Steven Fiegel added 10 digs. David Miller added five total blocks.

Sophomore Chris Shannon (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) knocked down a match and career high 27 kills while Eric Smith added 16 kills and 23 assists for the hosts (0-1).

The Mustangs will host their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) home match of the season against visiting Emerson College this Tuesday starting at 7:00 p.m.
