MEN'S VOLLEYBALL BLANKED BY GNAC FOE EMMANUEL 3-0
The Mount Ida College men's volleyball team dropped their second consecutive loss and the fifth Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) division game loss in the Northeast Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) 3-0 (12-30, 16-30, and 19-30) to visiting Emmanuel College Wednesday night in Newton, Massachusetts. The Mustangs fall to 4-9 overall, 2-5 in the GNAC while the Saints improve to 9-8 on the year and 5-2 in division play.
The Mustangs were behind the entire match losing game one quickly with the Saints overpowering the hosts 30-12 up 1-0 in the match. Game two wasn't any different while the visitors continued to cruise to a 30-16 victory good for the 2-0 match lead. Mount Ida was finished off in game three to wrap up the shutout losing 19-30 for the 3-0 match victory.
Senior captain Bryan McMenamin (Warminster, MA/William Tennent) led the Mustangs with nine kills, 10 digs, and one block assists. Sophomore Thomas Belton (Springfield, MA/Springfield Central) hammered five kills along with five digs. Sophomore Gary Alvarez (Springfield, MA/Springfield Central) dished out 17 assists and five digs.
The offensive attack for the Saints was led by sophomore Curtis Abram (San Luis Obispo, CA/San Luis Obispo) with a game high 22 kills. Junior Taylor Lowe (Malibu, CA/Malibu) notched 25 assists and seven digs. Junior Michael Townsend (Beaverdam, VA/Patrick Henry) tallied five service aces.
The Mustangs will travel to Tivoli, New York and compete in the Bard College Tournament for the weekend starting Friday.
