Southworth Posts Double-Double As Men's Volleyball Drops 3-0 Non-League Decision At Eastern Nazarene

QUINCY, Mass. --  Senior Kenny Sorenson (Quincy, Mass.) recorded 20 kills and nine digs to lead Eastern Nazarene to a 3-0 college men’s volleyball victory over Mount Ida by game scores of 26-24, 25-23 and 25-16 in a non-league match played Thursday evening at the Lahue Center.

 

Sophomore Andrew Jayne (Quincy, Mass.) added six kills and six digs in the triumph for the host Lions (3-6), who received five kills from freshman Samuel Cueva (Swampscott, Mass.) along with four kills, five digs, two service aces and two block solos from junior Brandon Jenkins (Norton, Mass.).  Senior Matthew Tyree (Lansdale, Pa.) collected 37 set assists and three digs for Eastern Nazarene, which received seven digs from senior Andrew Shaw (Weymouth, Mass.) in posting its second win in 19 days between the two squads.

 

Junior Brett Southworth (Orange, Conn.) registered a double-double effort of 13 kills and 11 digs in the setback for the visiting Mustangs (6-6), who received eight kills and five digs from freshman Isaac Reed (Keene, N.H.) along with six kills and three digs from sophomore Andre Foster (Davis, Calif.).  Freshman Tyler Dorfman (West Hartford, Conn.) chipped in with five kills and four digs for Mount Ida, which received 28 set assists and five digs from sophomore Kevin Keohane (Jefferson, N.J.), six digs from junior Ethan Souza (Acushnet, Mass.) and a pair of digs from junior Tyler Shinkle (West Deptford, N.J.).

 

Mount Ida heads to Brooklyn, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon to square off with Cooper Union and host Pratt in a non-league tri-match that begins at Noon, while Eastern Nazarene hosts Pine Manor and Regis in a non-league tri-match on Saturday morning at the Lahue Center beginning at 11:00 a.m.
