Mount Ida Softball Lends a Helping Hand at the Great Boston Food Bank, Six Players and Head Coach Volunteer at Food Bank
Six players from the Mount Ida College Women’s Softball
team volunteered at the Greater Boston Food Bank in Dorchester, MA,
for a community outreach project. The Food Bank gives food and
non-food items to families, seniors, and shelters in the area for
help in the community.
“It was a good bonding experience for the team and it’s
a great way to help out in the community,” said
Head Coach Katie Zuman. “We helped
out with the sort of non-food items, things like paper towels,
toothpaste, and cleaning products.”
The six players involved in the project were senior
Lindsay Schwartz (Stoughton,
MA/Stoughton), junior Tiffany Kowarsky
(Springfield, MA/Longmeadow), sophomore
Samantha Conly (Avon, MA/Avon), and
freshmen Kris Duplisea (Chicopee,
MA/Chicopee),Katie White (Millbury,
MA/Millbury), and Kiley Jean (North
Monmouth, ME/Monmouth Academy).
In total, the team saved outside agencies $1629 that everything
will be distributed to, including $181 a person in hours worked.
They sorted 2,642 pounds of non-food items, including 235 pounds
sorted per volunteer.
The Mustangs will travel to Orlando, FL, on March 9th to compete in
their annual spring trip. Their first double header of the week
will be against Calumet College of St. Joseph (IN) starting at 3:30
pm.
