SOFTBALL TALLIES FIRST VICTORY OF SEASON OVER BAY PATH, Kris Duplisea Belts Two Run Homer

The Mount Ida College Softball team earned their first win of the 2008 season this past Monday against Bay Path College. The Mustangs split the twin bill ending the day with a record of 1-11 overall and 0-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.

The first verse of the double header opened up with some sloppy defense by MIC that led to two unearned Bay Path runs to make the score 2-0.

Mount Ida would wake up the bats and take the lead on the heels of a four-run third inning. Katie Lorenco (Mattapoisett, MA/Old Rochester Regional) got it all started with a single which brought home Katie White (Millbury, MA/Millbury) for the first run. Later in the inning, with one out, Kerri Kwasek (Framingham, MA/Framingham) tripled to right center scoring Lorenco and Becky Tisbert (Cambridge, VT/Lamoille Union). BPC would tally one run in the bottom half of the third to make the score 4-3 in favor of the Mustangs after three innings.

The top of the fifth proved to be the back breaker for Bay Path. Lorenco would rip her second single of the game up the middle with just one out to once again spark the offense for Mount Ida. The next batter, Kris Duplisea (Chicopee, MA/Chicopee), belted a two-run homerun over the left field fence making the score 6-3 in favor of the visitors. Kwasek would drive in her third run of the game in the top of the 7th as both teams would trade runs in the last inning. The Mustangs would record the final out on defense and grab their first victory, 7-4, in game one.

Unfortunately the taste of victory was short lived as Mount Ida dropped game two of the double-header. Entering the bottom of the sixth inning the visitors were set-up for their second win with a 5-4 lead. However a four-run inning for the Wildcats would spoil the Mustangs’ plans of completing a sweep.

Mount Ida Softball returns to field on the road Friday, March 28th against GNAC opponent Johnson & Wales for another double-header.
