MUSTANGS TAKE DOWN GREAT NORTHEAST ATHLETIC CONFERENCE (GNAC) # ONE SEED PINE MANOR COLLEGE IN GAME ONE, Freshman Lauren Garnick Drives In Go Ahead Run

Mustang freshman Lauren Garnick (Boxford, MA/Masconomat Regional) hammered a base hit driving in the winning run and knocking off Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) undefeated Pine Manor College in game one by a score of 5-2. The teams would split the double header at MIC with the hosts bettering their record to 5-17, 3-7 in league play while the Gators fell to 15-4, 8-1 in the GNAC.

After a very quiet opening three innings, the Mustangs would take a one run lead in the fourth off a double into the gap by junior pitcherKerri Kwasek (Framingham, MA/Framingham). The Gators would answer in the top of the fifth on two scattered hits by Siobhan Raymond (Winchendon, MA/Gardner) and Kelly Pirzi (Dalton, MA/Wachonah) giving the visitors the 2-1 advantage in the top of the fifth.

With a couple of zero’s on the board in the next two innings, the Mustangs would come out firing driving in the go ahead by Garnick on a single through third and shortstop giving the hosts the 3-2 lead. Freshman first baseman Katie White (Millbury, MA/Millbury) would add two insurance runs off a single to center field giving the Mustangs the 5-2 advantage. Kwasek would end the game off two ground outs and a pop up handing the Gators their first conference loss off the season.

Game two would be all about the visitors taking the 11-0 victory after their devastating loss in game one. Inning number three would prove to be the back breaker for the Mustangs with the Gators scoring five runs total off a bunt single, two doubles, and two homeruns giving Pine Manor the 7-0 lead. PMC would eventually tack on four more runs in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly and another blast over the left field fence by Raymond driving in three for the winner.

The Mustangs will host Albertus Magnus College this Sunday with the first pitch of game one coming at 1:00 p.m.
