NEWTON, Mass. -- The 2015 Mount Ida College softball season saw the Mustangs battle early adversity to return to the conference tournament.
The Mustangs returned from their season-opening trip to Florida to win five of their next seven games, and then clinched a trip to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tournament on the final day of the regular season by sweeping a double-header against Saint Joseph (CT) in dramatic fashion.
Needing to win both games to secure a tiebreaker over Norwich, Mount Ida came from four-run deficits in both of their contests to sweep the Blue Jays and continue their season into the GNAC First Round, where they bowed out to eventual conference champions Johnson & Wales.
In addition, sophomores Nicole Handzel (Palmer, Mass.), Samantha Laferriere (Tewksbury, Mass.), Shannon McArthur (Coventry,R.I.), and freshman Lexi Minicucci (Westfield, Mass.) were all honored by the National Fastpitch Coach's Association (NFCA) as All-America Scholar Athletes for earning a 3.5 GPA or higher during this past school year.
