WOMEN'S BASKETBALL LOSES TO FRAMINGHAM STATE, Senior Lauren Hickey net Career High 21
Senior guard Lauren Hickey (Enosburg Falls
VT/Richford) carried the Mustangs netting a career
high 21 points only for her team to come up short losing 68-61
against Framingham Sate College this Thursday. The Rams led by a
whopping 23 in the second half, but Mount Ida would chip away to
make it close in the end. The Mustangs drop their record to 3-9
with their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC)
match-up of the season this weekend.
Framingham State broke out in the opening act going on a 9-0 run to
take the 14-5 lead over Mount Ida in the first five minutes. The
home team had a tough time on offense shooting 20 percent from the
floor going 6-30. The Mustangs would get within four with 10
minutes showing on the clock but could not contain the Rams while
they would reel off an 8-0 run going up 14 and would maintain the
advantage to halftime up 32-18.
Mount Ida was a completely different team in the second stanza;
they would let Framingham State pile it on the first 10 minutes
stretching their lead to a game high 23 points up 54-31. But the
Mustangs would boost their offense and change their game plan in
the last quarter of the game getting as close as six with 3:37 to
go. Hickey would inspire her teammates grabbing aggressive rebounds
and draining three pointers to keep them within striking distance.
But there just wasn’t enough time on the clock to give Mount
Ida the lift they needed to take the victory.
The Mustangs were also led by Sophomore forward Cherie
Parisi (South Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) who enjoyed
her sixth double-double of the year with 13 points and 11 boards.
Junior guardElise McLear (Swansea,
MA/Case) netted 10 with seven rebounds while Freshman
Rebecca Tisbert (Cambridge, VT/Lamiolle
Union) was a defensive machine with six steals.
Hickey set her own personal highs tonight raining in four from
downtown, a career high 21 points, and netting five from the
charity stripe. Her team turned it around shooting 50 percent from
the floor and dropping in 43 total points in the second half.
The Mustangs will travel to Pine Manor College this Saturday,
January 12 for their first GNAC conference game with tip-off
beginning at 12 noon.
