WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TAKES FOURTH CONFERENCE LOSS, Sophomore Nicole Casimiro Nets 20
The Mustangs traveled to Nashua, NH this past weekend losing 97-
69 in a hard fought battle against Rivier College. This would be
Mount Ida’s fourth GNAC loss thus far, and would drop their
overall record to 5-13, (2-4 GNAC), while the Raiders would improve
to 8-9, (4-3 GNAC).
MIC started off on the right foot by netting a jumper in the first
minute of regulation by Sophomore Nicole Casimiro (Lee,
NH/Oyster River), who would go on to score a game
high of 20 points for the Mustangs. The Raiders would then come
back to tie it with 15:56 until the break. Both teams would
continue to exchange baskets with the score staying tied with 8:20
left to play. Rivier would take the lead by 10 at half time with a
score of 44-33.
The Raiders would maintain the advantage in the second half by
going on a 6-0 run in the first few minutes. MIC would make an
effort to fight back by the scrappy play on the court.
Unfortunately, it would be too late for the Mustangs while Rivier
would take the lead for the remainder of play. The Raiders would
take lead on the foul line, draining 17-24 as a team throughout the
contest. RC would then take the advantage with outstanding shooting
by sophomore Blair Carpenter resulting in a 25 point performance
for the day.
Sophomore forward Cherie Parisi (South Attleboro,
MA/Attleboro) would dominate the boards recording her
ninth double-double of the season, collecting and exceptional 18
points along with 10 rebounds. Senior captain Lauren
Hickey (Enosburg VT/Richford) would light a spark on
the court shooting 6-10 from the field and 4-7 from the 3-point
range.
The Mount Ida College Women’s basketball team will continue
to battle in the GNAC this Thursday against Emerson College.
