SOPHOMORE CHERIE PARISI NETS TENTH DOUBLE-DOUBLE OF THE SEASON

The Mount Ida College Women’s Basketball team hosted Emerson College this Thursday losing 83-61 handing the Mustangs their fifth Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss of the year. MIC would drop their record to 5-14 overall, 2-5 in the GNAC while the Lions would improve to 10-9, 5-2 in league play.

The hosts only led at the beginning of the contest up 11-5with 14:55 showing on the clock off a bucket by Sophomore Cherie Parisi (South Attleboro, MA/Attleboro). The rest of the first half would be a slow breakaway by the Lions, adding to their lead gradually throughout the opening act. Emerson added to their advantage by as many as 10 with a three pointer by junior Bri Papa (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) going ahead 36-26 with 4:36 remaining until the split. The Mustangs couldn’t muster the offense giving the Lions a seventeen point lead at the half at 30-47.

The second half was a battle to survive for Mount Ida keeping it at an 11 point lead up 59-48 around the 10:41 mark. Emerson would continue to pour in the baskets presenting the home team with a tough comeback to make. The Mustangs would fall short toward the end of regulation with the Lions leading by a game high 22 points and eventually ending at that number winning 83-61.

Parisi would lead Mount Ida with 19 points and 10 rebounds tallying her 10th double-double of the season. Two other players from MIC would score in double figures with Junior Elise McLear (Swansea, MA/Case) and Senior Lauren Hickey (Enosburg Falls, VT/Richford) would net 29 points and five assists combined. Sophomore guard Nicole Casimiro (Lee, NH/Oyster River) would chip in seven.

The Lions were led by powerful freshman Kathy Andrade (Hull, MA/Hull) who scored a game high 22 points with seven rebounds. They would have two other players in double figures with Papi netting 19 and junior Maude Okrah (Rutland, MA/Notre Dame) dropping 18.

The Mustangs will travel to St. Joseph College of Connecticut this Saturday for the first time this season with tip-off beginning at 1:00 p.m.
