WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS FIRST ROUND AT REGIS, Senior Crystal Burgess nets 18
The Mount Ida College Women’s Basketball team dropped an
89-61 loss to Curry College in the first round of the Regis College
Tournament in Worcester, MA this past Saturday. The Mustangs fall
to 2-8 on the season while Curry improves to 4-6.
Mount Ida led the game in the first 20 seconds but would fall
behind quickly when Curry went on a 16-0 run to make it 17-2 with
14:58 left in the first half. The Mustangs couldn’t muster
much offense despite shooting 42 percent from the floor going into
the half down 44-30.
Mount Ida would drop in the first basket of the second set but the
Colonels’ would continue to pull away. The Mustangs would get
within striking distance down ten with 12:41 to go, but Curry would
go on a 10-0 run up 20 with eight minutes to play cruising to the
win.
Senior guard Crystal Burgess (Lowell, MA/Lowell
Regional Tech) led all scores for Mount Ida with 18
points and five steals while Senior Lauren Hickey
(Enosburg Falls, VT/Richford) dropped in 10 with
seven rebounds. JuniorElise McLear (Swansea,
MA/Case) and Sophomore’s Cherie
Parisi (South Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) and
Nicole Casimiro (Lee, NH/Oyster River)
would all tally nine points with a combined 20 boards.
The Mustangs will play in the consolation game today at 5:00 p.m.
against tournament host Regis College. After the tournament, they
will head home to play Framingham State College at 6:00 p.m. on
Thursday.
