WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WINS CONSOLATION GAME, Sophomore Cherie Parisi nets 26
The Mount Ida College Women’s Basketball team hit a high
point in their season this past weekend taking third place in the
Regis College Tournament in Worcester, MA. They would finish off
Wheelock College in a tough back and forth battle with four lead
changes, 63-52, improving their record to 3-8 overall.
The Mustangs led the first ten minutes of the contest going on a
6-0 run by draining back-to-back three pointers. They would pull
away by as many as nine with 14 minutes left in the half. But
Wheelock would come storming back, taking the lead on a shot from
downtown making it 19-17 with 10:31 showing. The Wildcats would
maintain their advantage throughout the first stanza and take the
23-25 halftime lead.
Mount Ida would go down by as many as eight in the beginning of the
second half with 12:39 left to play at 38-30. But the Mustangs
would come stampeding back going on a 13-0 run to regain the
advantage. The Wildcats would get within one with 6:36 left in the
contest, but could not overcome the momentum swing by Mount Ida.
The Mustangs would pour it on with five minutes left to play up by
15 at one point and eventually winning by 11.
Sophomore forward Cherie Parisi (South Attleboro,
MA/Attleboro) would dominate her position going 11-14
for the floor and a perfect 3-3 from downtown. She would net her
fifth double-double of the season with 26 points and 11 boards.
Senior guard Crystal Burgess (Lowell, MA/Lowell
Regional Tech.) would enjoy another stellar
performance dropping in 18 points, eight rebounds, and five
assists.
The Mustangs would shoot a solid 45 percent from the floor in the
second half to really open up the lead including 50 percent from
three point land. Mount Ida was outstanding from the free throw
line going 5-6 in the second set at 83 percent.
Framingham State will be visiting Mount Ida College to face to
women this Thursday for a 6:00 p.m. start.
