WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS EIGHTH CONFERENCE BID OF THE SEASON, Sophomore Cherie Parisi Nets 13th double-double
Mount Ida College Women’s basketball team traveled to
rival and neighboring institution Lasell College last night to play
in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match-up losing
37-63. This will drop the Mustangs to 3-8 in the GNAC, 6-17 overal
while the Lasers will improve their record to 4-7 in league play,
6-16 on the season.
The Mustangs were flat in the first half of play, while the Lasers
would come out firing and take the lead with 17:28 remaining. It
would be tough for Mount Ida to come back with the hosts going on a
14-2 run in the first seven minutes of the game. The Mustangs could
only muster six baskets the entire first set while Lasell powered
the offense dropping in 32 points going into the break. The Lasers
would lead by as many as 22 before MIC netted two consecutive three
pointers to cut the lead to 16 going into the locker room down
32-15.
It was the same story, different verse in the second half with
Lasell pouring on the baskets stretching the advantage to a game
high 30 points with 5:29 to go in regulation. The Mustangs would
cut the lead to 14 in the opening six minutes. That would be as
close as Mount Ida would get while the home team pounded the basket
shooting 52 percent from the floor. The home team would finally
pull away handing MIC their 8th league loss of the season, ending
their hopes for a conference tournament bid. The Mustangs could
only manage to shoot 18.8 percent from the floor and 16.7 percent
from downtown.
Mount Ida was lead by Sophomore Cherie Parisi (South
Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) who was the only player for
her team in double figures with 10 points and 15 rebounds netting
her 13th double-double of the season. Senior guard
Crystal Burgess (Lowell, MA/Lowell Regional
Tech) and Sophomore guard Nicole Casimiro
(Lee, NH/Oyster River) would combine for 16 points
and five boards. Junior Elise McLear (Swansea,
MA/Case) would chip in nine rebounds.
The Mustangs will travel to Albertus Magnus College this Saturday
for their second to last regular season conference match-up for a
1:00 p.m. tip-off.
