WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TAKES THIRD GREAT NORTHEAST ATHLETIC CONFERENCE (GNAC) AGAINST ST. JOSEPH COLLEGE (CT), Lauren Hickey Nets Career High 26

Senior shooting guard Lauren Hickey (Enosburg Falls, VT/Richford) would net a career high 26 points including six from three point land to give her team the 70-62 victory at St. Joseph College (CT) this past Saturday in West Hartford, CT. The Mustangs would better their record to 6-14 overall, 3-5 in league play giving them the jump into eighth place in the conference.

It was all Mount Ida for the bulk of the contest taking the early up 26-18 advantage up by eight off a jumper by Junior forward Ashley Cirillo (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) with 7:53 to go until the break. They Mustangs would continue to build on the lead while the Blue Jays struggled to keep pace with the surging visitors. It was a solid half for MIC with on with only four turnovers the entire first stanza and shooting 41 percent from the floor.

The second half would tell the story with Sophomore forward Cherie Parisi (South Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) netting the first three buckets for the Mustangs to keep the lead substantial at this point up 15 at 27-42 with 16:43 showing on the clock. Although Mount Ida maintain a decent margin between the two teams for most of the way, the Blue Jays didn’t quit keeping it close and eventually trailing by only three with MIC leading 64-61 with 1:16 remaining. But Hickey would get three trips to the charity stripe in the closing minute nailing all six opportunities giving her squad the 70-62 victory, their sixth of the season.

Hickey would lead the attack for the Mustangs along with Parisi who would net her 10th double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 boards. Junior guardElise McLear (Swansea, MA/Case) was also in double figures chipping in 14 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.

Mount Ida will come home and host Emmanuel College this Wednesday for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off.
