WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS TENTH CONFERENCE LOSS OF THE SEASON ON SENIOR DAY, Mustangs led by senior Lauren Hickey and sophomore Cherie Parisi

On Senior Day, the Mount Ida College Women’s Basketball team dropped their tenth loss to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) number two seed Suffolk University 69-52. The Mustangs would round out the season going 6-19 overall, 3-10 in the GNAC while the Rams bettered to 18-7, 11-2 in league play.

Although the visitors held a small advantage throughout the first half, the Mustangs kept it close off a three pointer by Sophomore Nicole Casimiro (Lee, NH/Oyster River) cutting the Rams lead to 28-23 with 6:14 remaining. The bulk of the opening minutes the team traded baskets while neither squad could command the game. But the visitors would take over, blowing it open by 17 with 18 second to go before the break up 42-25. Mount Ida would collect the last bucket scored by Senior Jamie Hurd (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) making it 42-27at the half.

The Mustangs would cut down the Suffolk lead to 10 at the 14:11 mark on a lay-up by Junior guard Elise McLear (Swansea, MA/Case) only trailing 36-46. But that would be as close as they could get while the Rams poured on the offensive stretching the advantage to a game high 21 at the five minute mark with no chance for the hosts to make a late comeback. MIC would only shoot 30 percent for the game while the visitors made 45 percent of their baskets.

There were three players in double figures for Mount Ida with Sophomore Cherie Parisi (South Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) netting a team high 14 points and five boards. McLear would chip in 10 with five assists while teammate and Senior captain Lauren Hickey (Enosburg Falls, VT/Richford) enjoyed her last game in a green uniform with 13 points and four rebounds.

The Rams were led by freshman Christie Lwanicki (Newtown, CT/Newtown) would dropped in 16 while teammate Meghan Tracey (Rehoboth, MA/St. Raphael Academy) netted a game high 17 with eight boards.

The Mustangs would end their season with a record of 6-19, 3-10 in conference play while Suffolk will host Rivier College in the first round of the 2008 GNAC tournament.
