HANNAH BLUM POWERS MUSTANGS TO SECOND VICTORY

Mount Ida College freshman Hannah Blum (Raleigh, NC/Broughton) collected a double-double with 21 points and 18 rebounds to lead the Mustangs past Anna Maria College, 65-50, at the Fuller Activities Center on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.  Mount Ida betters their record to 2-5 overall and has yet to play a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest.  The AMCATS drop to 0-5 on the year.

The Mustangs came out of the gate firing on all cylinders, building a 20-3 lead on runs of 8-0 and 10-0.

The game seemed all but finished, but the hosts came storming back. With the Mustangs leading 23-6, AMC went on a 10-2 run including five points from freshman Amanda Hevy (North Brookfield, MA). After a couple of free throws by the visiting junior Nicole Casimiro (Lee, NH/Oyster River) Mount Ida took the 11 point lead at 27-16.  But the AMCATS responded once again going on a 12-4 run, capped off on a jumper from sophomore Crystal Torres (Southbridge, MA) to cut the Mustang lead to three at 31-28.

The Mustangs scored four points before the end of the half to go into the locker room up by seven with the score 35-28. The visitors used a 16-4 advantage in the paint during the period to build their lead while Anna Maria stayed in the game by getting 15 points from their bench.

Mount Ida set the tone early in the second half getting a lay-up from junior Cheri Parisi (South Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) and a three-pointer by sophomore Rebecca Tisbert (Cambridge, VT/Lamoille Union) to stretch their lead to double-digits at 40-28.

Anna Maria got back within eight on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Emily Nugent (Worcester, MA before Blum took over the game for the Mustangs. Blum scored 10 points while grabbing nine boards in the half to close out the 65-50 victory for Mount Ida.

Blum paced the Mustangs, leading all scorers with 21 points while collecting a game-high 18 rebounds. Parisi had a double-double of her own with 12 points and 14 boards, while Casimiro and junior Ashley Boyd (Hanson, MA/Whitman-Hanson) each had five blocks.

The Mustangs will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to take on Bay Path College at 7:00 pm.
