MUSTANGS EARN 1ST HOME WIN IN PROGRAM HISTORY; DEFEAT REGIS, 17-4
March 22, 2010 (Newton Centre, MA) –
Junior attacker Jen Thompson (Easton, MD) powered
the Mount Ida College attack with eight goals and two assists for
10 points to lead the Mustangs to the program’s first home
victory this afternoon, defeating Regis College 17-4.
Mount Ida (4-0) featured a potent offensive attack with six
student-athletes registering at least one point. Junior midfielder
Danielle Chuba (Wrightstown, NJ/Northern
Burlington) was just a single point off Thompson’s
furious pace, scoring seven markers and handing out a pair of
helpers. Classmate Kira Feeter (Keene, NH) also
penned multiple points in her ledger with one goal and two assists.
Junior Alexandra Sarno (East Patchogue, NY/Bellport
Senior) and freshman midfielder Stephanie Hill
(Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) also cracked the scoring column
with an assist a piece.
The Mustangs took control of the contest in the opening 10 minutes
of action, finding the back of the net eight times. Chuba started
the scoring surge by sandwiching a pair of markers between a junior
midfielder Becky Tisbert (Cambridge, VT/Lamoille
Union) score to give the hosts an early 3-0 advantage.
Chuba completed her hat trick just three minutes, 53 seconds in the
contest and turned the scoring show over to Thompson. The junior
attacker netted her first marker 21 seconds after Chuba, then
scored six straight markers in the stretch of seven minutes to give
Mount Ida a commanding 10-0 lead.
The Mustangs sandwiched a pair of goals between sophomore
midfielder Teresa Crevier (Milford, MA/Montrose) marker to enter
the intermission leading,12-1.
Mount Ida continued its momentum into the second stanza, notching
the first three goals of the half to balloon its lead to 15-1. The
Pride (0-2) strung together back-to-back markers, but the hosts
quickly responded with a pair of their own to seal the
non-conference victory.
Crevier led the Pride both offensively and defensively, netting a
hat trick and scooping up six ground balls.
In between the posts, freshman goalie Devyn Frank (Mystic,
CT/Fitch) stopped five shots to earn her fourth victory of
the campaign, while her counterpart, freshman Jillian DeFransesco
(Peabody, MA), reached double digits in saves with 11.
Mount Ida returns to action at 3 p.m. on March 24, when the Mustangs host UMass Dartmouth in non-conference action.
