WOMEN'S LAX FALLS SHORT TO GNAC FOE EMERSON 15-9

The Mount Ida College women’s lacrosse team dropped their third Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest of the season 15-9 Thursday at Emerson College in downtown Boston, Massachusetts.  The Mustangs fall to 5-4 overall, 1-3 in league play. 

Emerson College scored the first six goals of the game and never looked back while Mount Ida had a rough start and could not get the comeback wheel turning. 

Emerson did not allow Mount Ida an offensive possession for the first five minutes of the game building a 6-0 lead on two goals each by Meg Ross  (Wrentham, Mass.) and Monica Carroll (Reading, Mass.), and single tallies by Laura Miley (Cranston, R.I.) and Katie Dodge (West Newbury, Mass.) before the Mustangs touched the ball.  Ross won every faceoff during the run.

Mount Ida rallied with three consecutive goals on two Jen Thompson (Easton, MDEaston) markers surrounding one by Danielle Chuba (Wrightstown, NJ/Northern Burlington Regional) to bring the Mustangs within three with 18:39 remaining in the first half.

The Lions moved the lead back to six with a three goal run of their own started by Miley and finished with two goals from Amy Gervis (Randolph, N.J.).  The Mustangs wouldn't give in, however scoring the final two goals of the half with Becky Tisbert (Cambridge, VT/Lamoille Union) netting both in the last 1:07 of the half.

Ross took over the game at the start of the second half scoring four consecutive unassisted goals in the first nine minutes of the stanza.  Kira Feeter (Keene, NH/Keene) broke the string at the 20:29 mark, but Carroll potted the next two goals of the game for a 15-6 Lion lead.

Chuba, Thompson and Alexandria Milot (Tiverton, RI/Tiverton) netted the game's final three goals for Mount Ida.

Emerson dominated the statistical categories on the game taking 35 shots to only 21 for the Mustangs.  The Lions took 20 of 27 faceoffs and had a slight 17-15 lead in ground balls.

Emily Saeger (Center Valley, Pa.) had nine saves for the Lions, while Devyn Frank (Mystic, CT/Fitch) made seven stops for Mount Ida.

Thompson had three goals for the Mustangs while Chuba had a pair of goals and a pair of assists.

Ross was the game's top scorer with six goals and three assists.  Carroll had four goals and an assist for the Lions, and Dodge had three assists to go along with her goal. 

The Mustangs will take on visiting GNAC member Rivier College Saturday in a doubleheader with the men’s team starting at 1:00 p.m.
