GARSTANG/CHUBA SELECTED AS WOMEN'S LAX CAPTAINS

The Mount Ida College women's lacrosse team is pleased to announce that senior Grace Garstang (Southington, CT/Southington) and junior Danielle Chuba (Wrightstown, NJ/Northern Burlington Regional) have been selected as the captains for the 2010 women's lacrosse team in their inaugural season.

From day one Grace, a senior hotel management major, has been a leader.  As a strong defender, she is a commanding presence, who demands a lot from her teammates and herself.   The Mustangs will look for her to take charge of the defense this season. Grace's leadership also extends off the field as the player that is always organized, reminding players what they need to do and where they need to be.  Off the field, Grace is also the President of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, Vice President of the GNAC Student Athletic Advisory and is the assistant marketing manager for Aramark.  In the classroom Grace is a Sigma Beta Delta honors student as well as an Alpha Chi honors society student.  She helps keep the team GPA up, by making Dean's list every semester.

Danielle, a junior veterinary technology major from Wrightstown, New Jersey, came to Mount Ida last year as a transfer from Ithaca College in New York.  Danielle is a very skilled player both tactically and fundamentally.   Danielle will be a leader in the midfield for us and we will look to her as the quarterback of the offense.   Danielle always has a lot of drive to make herself better and her teammates, often helping out those that need the extra work.  Off the field Danielle was also elected by her teammates to serve on the Student Advisory Committee and she was a member of the cross country team this fall 2009.

"I feel Grace and Danielle will be strong leaders for our inaugural season," said first year Head Coach Peri Steere.  "Their leadership on and off the field will propel us to a successful start to our program."

The Mustangs kick off their first varsity season at non-conference Anna Maria College.
