Saturday, April 20, 2013 (Newton, Massaschusetts)- The Mount Ida College women's lacrosse team was defeated by  Emerson College Saturday afternoon by a score of 20-8.  The Mustangs move to 5-7 overall on the season and 2-7 in the GNAC.  The visiting Lions improve to 10-6 overall on the season and 7-2 in conference play.

The Mustangs were led in scoring by Molly Sheppard (Brookhaven, NY/Bellport) who combined for three goals and a solo assist to tally four points for the day.  Samantha Basler (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth North) was second in scoring for Mount Ida notching two goals and an assist.  Amanda Bowen (Randoph, VT/Randolph Union), Kaitlyn Affhauser (Cheshire, MA/Hoosac), and Brianna Barker (Westerly, RI/Westerly) each chipped in with single goal tallies in the contest.

The Lions were led on offense by Tracie Lombardo (Seaford, NY) who netted a team high in scoring, with five goals.  Kanika Misra (Potsdam, NY) was the main distributor on offense dishing out four assists on the day and tallied another three points by posting three goals.

Emerson was led on defense by the strong goaltending skills of Victoria Kanaris (Haworth, NJ) who stopped five Mustang shots to tally five saves on the game.  Chelsea Phillips was instrumental in securing the Lions backfield by causing a team high three turnovers and scooping up 12 groundballs.

The Mustang defense was led by senior goal keeper Kayla Musty ( Topsham, VT/Oxbow) who tallied 18 saves for the game.  Sheppard and Basler helped out on the defensive end of the field by recording a combined four caused turnovers.

This was the final regular season game for Mount Ida as they will await final results and seeding for a possible trip to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tournament.  Potential game time and opponent will follow.
