MUSTANGS LOSE PHYSICAL BATTLE WITH LASELL
The Mount Ida College Women’s Soccer team hosted Great
Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) competition Lasell College on
an overcast day on campus. It was a physical battle the entire
game, with the Mustangs running out of gas right at the end.
Mount Ida got the game rolling with goal by freshman forward
Rebecca Tisbert (Cambridge, VT/Cambridge)
from the right side going through the wickets of Lasers goaltender
Jamie Remmers (West Islip, NY/West Islip) giving the Mustangs a 1-0
lead with 29:10 left in the first set.
Lasell came back with 12:49 left in the half on a rebounded goal by
senior Anna Torvi (North Smithfield, RI/North Smithfield).
Mustangs’ goaltender Meghan Begins (Jericho,
VT/Jericho) made a magnificent save on a tough shot
that pop out in front of the net for an easy goal off an
unfortunate bounce making the score 1-1. The game would remain
knotted going into the second stanza of play.
The visitors would take over the lead with 27:29 left in the second
half on a rebounded shot off the post by freshman Allison Bushey (,
MA/Westminster) making it 2-1. Mustang goaltender Begins fought
hard for the ball Westminster that was squirting in between players
in the box and was injured on the play. Senior captain,
Jamie Hurd (Gloversville,
NY/Gloversville) would be the replacement keeper for
the remainder of the game.
Lasell would add a final goal at 2:12 in the second half by
sophomore Ashley Lambert (Salem, MA/Salem) ripping on from the top
left hand corner of the box past new goaltender Hurd to end the
game at 3-1.
Mount Ida will stay home and host GNAC member Suffolk University
this Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. start.
