MOUNT IDA DROPS TO CURRY COLLEGE 2-0, Second loss in a row for the women
The Mount Ida College Women’s Soccer Team faced off
against the Colonel’s from Curry College on a warm, sunny day
on the campus of Mount Ida College this past Thursday.
The first half was evenly matched with both teams tallying
zero’s on the board. Curry had the most opportunities to put
a ball in the net, especially after a brilliant save by Mustang
goalkeeper Meghan Begins (Jericho,
VT/Jericho) that popped out to a wide open goal with
the Colonel’s unable to finish.
Ashley Fisher (Millbury, MA/Millbury)
made a terrific run towards the net with a well fed ball by
sophomore Katie Lorenco (Mattapoisett, MA/Old
Rochester) that they were unable to convert into a
goal.
The second half was very physical with a yellow card by Curry
College sophomore forward Ashley Hansbury (Chelmsford,
MA/Chelmsford) with 25:56 left in the second half.
The Colonel’s got on the board with 18:09 left in the second
stanza on a through ball to Hansbury. She won the battle between
her and the goalie cutting to the left and giving herself an open
net for a tap in goal. It was a tough play for Mustang goal Begins
after she had kept her team in the game with some spectacular
saves.
The Mustangs had a chance to tie the game with a precision through
ball by junior midfielder Elise McLear (Swansea,
MA/Case) to sophomore Lorenco, but was unable to
finish.
Curry added a second goal with under seven minutes to go in the
second half coming off a rebound that sophomore Brooke DeLuca
(Manchester, NH/Manchester) snuck in behind the goaltender to make
it 2-0 for the final nail.
Mustang goaltender Begins had nine saves and Colonels keeper
Danielle Denham (Framingham, MA/Framingham) left the game with
four.
Mount Ida will travel to the great state of New Hampshire to face
Daniel Webster College this Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. start.
