MUSTANGS ROMP PINE MANOR, Ashley Fisher Tallies a Hat Trick

The Mount Ida College Women’s Soccer team matched up in their seventh Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game against Pine Manor College on a windy Saturday on the Mustangs home turf. MIC dominated the whole game, starting the scoring off quickly.

Junior midfielder Elise McLear (Swansea, MA/Case) put the Mustangs on top six minutes into the game off a tough shot from the right side of the net. It was redirected by an opposing player past the goaltender into the back of the net making it 1-0 with 39:12 left on the clock.

Mount Ida tacked on their second goal on a feed from McLear to senior forward Ashley Fisher (Millbury, MA/Millbury) who blasted one past Gators goaltender Essence Denton (Chicago, IL/Woodlands Academy) to make it 2-0 with 34:09 remaining in the first half. This would be the end of the scoring going into the second set.

The Gators got on the board in the beginning of the second half on an unassisted goal by Liz Castle (Milford, NH/Milford). Castle broke through the defense and got by Mustangs goaltender Meghan Begins (Jericho, VT/Jericho) for the open net tapping it in making it 2-1 with 40:51 left in the second stanza.

McLear netted her second goal of the game on a pass into the box from freshman Rebecca Tisbert (Cambridge, VT/Cambridge) with under 15:00 minutes remaining in the second half making it 3-1.

The Mustangs blew it open tacking on another goal by Fisher. It was her second goal of the day coming off a great feed by senior captain Andrea Wheeler (Harwinton, CT/Lewis Mills). Fisher would add one more goal in the contest for a hat trick on the day off a deflection to give Ida the 5-1 win for their third conference victory.

Mount Ida put together a total of 41 shots throughout the game with 21 landing on net.

MIC will travel to Becker College this coming Thursday to face the Hawks for a 3:30 pm start.
